[Class 38 (i)] A coupling, for use as a plug for a lamp-socket and also provided with plug pins to engage sockets, is formec with the contact pins per manently mounted on a head and passing through ar insulating member having metal contact pieces at its face with which the pins are always in contact, the whole being housed in a body part having a screw thread cooperating with a screw on the insulating member. As the head is turned in one direction or the other, the pins are projected or withdrawn. As shown, the device comprises a disc 9 to which the contact pins 10, with terminals 11, are secured. The pins pass through a hollow insulating member 12, through which the pins can slide, and which has metal contacts 13 at one end always in contact with the pins. At the other end a flange 17 is formed with parts 18 of screw threads corresponding with screw threads 24 on the inside of a barrel 23. A cap 21 with an opening 22 for flex is screwed to the barrel. When the cap is turned relatively to the barrel, the insulating member 12 is forced to turn by the pins and is moved longitudinally by the action of the threads 18, 24, and shrouds the pins, so that diametrically opposite pins 16 are available for engaging the bayonet slots of a lamp socket. When the insulating member is withdrawn the pins are accommodated in slots in the barrel 23. Projections 15 on the contacts 13 lie in the slots of the pins 10 and tend to force them open at the tips.
