Abstract

[Class 52 (i)] A table leg is fitted with a telescopic levelling device freely extensible but frictionally held when pressure is exerted in the opposite direction, the engaging means coming into operation only after the escape of air trapped between the parts on extension. A socket a, in the leg, contains a plunger d having a piston e at its lower end forming the tip of the leg. The upper end of the plunger is coned to seat balls f lying between loose coned sleeves g<1>-g<2>. On lifting or tilting the table the plunger d and piston e can fall and when the table is lowered the air compressed by the piston escapes through channels l lifting the sleeve g<2> and balls f until, the air having escaped, the plunger is jambed by the balls against further inward movement.
