Abstract
453,684. Pit - props. BOCHUMER EISENHUTTE HEINTZMANN & CO., GES., Bochum, and TOUSSAINT, H., 23, Waldmannstrasse, Lankwitz, Berlin, both in Germany. Dec. 5, 1935, No. 33717. Convention date, Dec. 6, 1934. [Class 20 (ii)] A telescopic pit-prop is provided with a screw adjusted friction device to maintain the parts in extended position The device comprises a U-shaped claw 3 adaptec partially to embrace the upper member 1 of the prop and a screw 4 adjustable in a U-shaped support 8 which also partially embraces the upper member and bears against the lower member. A ball and socket joint 9, 11 is provided between the adjusting screw and the claw 3 so that the claw can be tilted by the screw to grip the upper member. In order to increase the grip of the claw, a wedge 13 may be used between one of its gripping edges and the member 1. In a modification, an eccentrically mounted ribbed roller 13<1>, Fig. 6, may be used instead of the wedge.
