Abstract

Nitrogenous products obtained from hair, wool, horn, and the like by extraction with a non-aqueous solution of an alkali are added to cellulose solutions for the production of filaments, films, and the like. In the case of viscose solutions, the sulphidation may take place either before or after the addition of the albumen product. By the addition of acid a cellulose product containing nitrogen is precipitated, and this precipitate may be redissolved in soda-lye and worked up into filaments or films. In an example, wool is impregnated with a 10 per cent methyl alcoholic soda-lye, pressed down and heated to 60 DEG C. After removal of the alcohol the product is added to viscose which is worked up to filaments or films having a 3 per cent nitrogen content and an affinity for acid dyes. In a second example, the cellulose and albumen derivatives are sulphidized together, and the solution worked up as previously. In a third example viscose is poured into aqueous-alcoholic acetic acid and the mass pressed and placed in a solution of dichloracetic acid. The product is placed in a soda lye which contains in solution the albumen derivative and after 24 hours the mass is worked up into filaments or films. The mass may be further converted by treatment first with a solution of dichloracetic acid and then with the albumen solution.
