Abstract
Stable aqueous solutions of sodium 3 : 3<1>-diamino-4 : 4<1>dihydroxyarsenobenzene formal-dehydesulphoxylate are prepared by suspending moist crude 3 : 3<1> - diamino - 4 : 4<1> - dihydroxy-arsenobenzene in grape sugar solution, adding sodium formaldehyde-sulphoxylate solution, and filtering into ampoules, after further addition, if desired, of grape sugar solution. The 3 : 3<1>-diamino-4 : 4<1>-dihydroxyarsenobenzene is prepared as described in Specification 13485/10, [Class 2 (iii)], by reduction with sodium hydrosulphite of 3-nitro-4-hydroxybenzene-arsonic acid and the impurities present in the crude product are rendered insoluble by the addition of the sulphoxylate. The presence of oxygen or air must be excluded during the steps of the process. Examples are given.
