[Class 44] A spring - urged latch capable as a whole of a turning and sliding movement as a door is opened, and of a simple sliding movement as the door is closed, has key-operated means for preventing the turning movement of the latch. The latch member 1 is urged through a hole in the lock casing by a spring 3 which engages between two flanges 1<c>, 1<e>, on the latch member. These flanges are of greater depth than the latch member 1 to prevent the latter from being pressed through the hole. The flange 1<e> is bevelled as shown to abut against the cover plate of the lock when the latch is tilted to allow the door to open, and the flange 1<c> engages the lock case to guide the latch member during its ordinary sliding movement. A plate 5, guided by pins 6, 7 and operated by a key which moves a tumbler 8, has an offset part 5<a> which engages the upper edge of the flange 1<c>, when the plate is lowered, and prevents the latch member 1 from tilting. A part 5f on the plate 5 limits the inward sliding movement of the latch and a stamped up part 9 on the cover plate limits the inward movement of the latch when tilted. The spring 3 is coiled around the pin 6 and one end of it engages a flange 8<c> on the tumbler 8.
