Abstract

239,704. Stevens, A. C. Sept. 15, 1924. Night-latches and like spring locks.-In a lock of the kind which is manipulated from one side by a knob and from the other side by a key, a device which can be used to prevent rotation of the knob B when the door is closed comprises a bar D slidable through a guide d<1> pivoted to the lock casing. When disposed horizontally and moved to the left, the end d<4> of the bar D enters a hole in the stem of the knob, and the hooked end d<3> enters a recess in the lock casing, in which it is retained by the door frame &c. when the door is closed. When the door is open, the bar may be moved to the right to free the knob, and allowed to hang in the vertical disengaged position shown in dotted lines. The bar may be in two parts hinged together, and when used with mortice locks the bar is attached to the door. The knob stem may have a second hole used with the bar to retain the lock in unlocked position.
