Abstract
436,769. Turning-gear. ROESCH, G. H., and TALBOT, Ltd., C., Barlby Road, Ladbroke Grove, London. Jan. 17, 1935, No. 1662. [Class 7 (v)] A starting-motor drive comprises a worm 22 secured to the shaft 16 of the starting motor 13 and meshing permanently with a worm wheel 23 in permanent engagement with one member 28 of a freewheel clutch of the jamming-roller type, the other member 30 of which is in permanent engagement with the engine shaft or a shaft 11 connected thereto. As shown, the worm wheel 23 is mounted by means of a friction coupling 6 on the rim of a clutch casing 24, 25, the boss 28 of which carries an inner race 29 for the clutch rollers 34. The outer race 30 is integral with a tubular member 31 splined on the shaft 11 of a dynamo 10, which shaft is coupled at 12 to the forward end of the engine shaft. The motor 13 is mounted by means of studs 14 on the dynamo casing 15, which is secured by bolts 8 to the engine casing 7, and the starting shaft 20 is connected to the shaft 16 of the starting motor by an internallysplined coupling sleeve 17. The friction coupling 6 slips if the engine turns backwards at starting.
