Abstract

1294433 Engine starter drives SOC ANON DBA 20 May 1971 [1 June 1970] 16078/71 Heading F1K A starter drive of the positive shift type comprises a starter drive assembly having a sleeve member 26 splined on the shaft 12 of the motor and connected to the driving portion of a unidirectional clutch 24 the driven portion of which is connected to a pinion 20 adapted to mesh with the toothed wheel 22 of the internalcombustion engine to be started, when the starter drive assembly is moved towards the toothed wheel against spring return means. The sleeve member comprises spline 28 on its internal surface at its end portion opposite to the one connected to the clutch and an inner cavity 46 adjacent the clutch having radial and axial dimensions larger than those of the splines of the shaft so that the cavity receives the shaft splines without contact therein when the starter drive assembly is retracted under the action of the spring return means.
