Abstract

1323399 Engine starter drives BENDIX CORP 23 Feb 1972 [12 March 1971] 8353/72 Heading F1K An engine starter drive comprises a sleeve 14 slidable on a power shaft 12 and having external helical spines 18 formed on an end thereof, a pinion gear 26 slidably journalled for axial movement relative to the shaft and adapted for movement into and out of engagement with a gear 22 of the engine to be started, a driven clutch member 30 secured to the pinion gear and a driving clutch member 20 having internal splines mating with the helical splines of the sleeve, the driven and driving members constituting a unidirectional clutch unit resiliently biased into the engaged position. A low friction thrust bearing is inter-posed between the driven clutch member 30 and the splined end of the sleeve. As shown the bearing is a low friction thrust washer 60 positioned within a cavity on recess 32 in the driven clutch member.
