Abstract

1,171,631. Motor vehicle driving gear. FORD MOTOR CO. Ltd. 2 Nov., 1966, No. 49051/66. Heading B7H. [Also in Division F1] The output shaft 3 of a motor vehicle engine is at right angles to the crank-shaft 2 and driven directly through gearing 12, 13, 17, from an intermediate point thereof. One or more gears 7 arranged e.g. at the centre portion of the crankshaft drive a transfer shaft 14 which drives the output shaft 3 through bevel gears 13, 17. The engine may be in line with the cylinder axes at right angles to, or parallel to, the shaft 3, or it may be of V or opposed piston type. The end of the shaft 3 is adapted to be connected to a clutch driving a manual gear-box or to an automatic transmission.
