[Also in Division F1] In an I.C. engine, means for connecting an accessory 26, Fig. 2, having an externallysplined driving element 30 to a crank-shaft (18), Fig. 1 (not shown), mounted on a crankcase comprises an accessory driveshaft 34 supported on the crankcase and having an axial internallysplined bore engaged with the driving element and gearing (24), 36, coupling the crank-shaft to the driveshaft, including a gear fixed on the driveshaft. Driveshaft 34 drives oppositely mounted oil and fuel pumps 26, 28 and similar driveshafts 38, 44 drive other accessories e.g. magnetos. The gears are press-fitted on the driveshafts and fixed by induction welding.
