1,172,500. Motor vehicle engine arrangement. FORD MOTOR CO. Ltd. 22 Dec., 1966, No. 11059/69. Divided out of 1,160,380. Heading B7H. A public service or goods vehicle has two compression-ignition engines 51, 52 coupled through freewheel couplings 53, 54 and bevel gears 55, 56, 57 to a common clutch 59 and gear-box 61. The engines may be arranged at the rear of the vehicle with their aligned crankshaft axes extending transversely. The clutch 59 and gear-box 61 are either disposed in front of the bevel gears 55, 56, 57 as shown with a gear-box output shaft 62 extending beneath the bevel gears or are disposed behind the bevel gears (Fig. 3, not shown). An alternator, power steering pump and air compressor are either provided for each engine or are driven from a part of the drive line common to both, such as from a belt-drive pulley 71 provided on the clutch input shaft for driving fans 74, 75 which cool a radiator divided internally into separate sections for each engine.
