207,831. Tampier, R. J. C. Dec. 2, 1922, [Convention date]. Void [Published under Sect. 91 of the Act]. Clutches, claw.-A coupling between a starting- motor and an engine, which is disengaged if the engine turns backwards, comprises concentric members 1, 5 connected to the motor and the engine and pistons 3 sliding radially in the member 5 and held by springs 4 in engagement with recesses 2 in the member 1, which is driven from the starting-motor through worm or other gearing. If the engine turns backwards, the pistons 3 are disengaged by the inclined ends of the recesses 2. A breakable pin 6 connects the member 1 to its toothed rim and breaks if the pistons 3 fail to disengage.
