Abstract
283,033. Cavanagh, P. J., and Read, W. C. April 21, 1927. Clutches, claw.-A clutch comprises pins 8, Figs. 3 and 4, having flats, 9 arranged round the periphery of a disc 12, Figs. 1 and 8. When the flats 9 are presented to the disc 12, the clutch is disengaged. When the pins 8 are turned on their axes, the body of each pin moves inwards and slips upon the periphery of the disc 12 until it comes to a recess 11, which it enters. A disc 1, Fig. 1, carrying the pins 8 is thus locked to the disc 12, that is, the clutch is engaged. The pins are adapted to be turned in unison so that the clutch is operated by the axial sliding of a sleeve 2. Each pin 8 is connected by gearing 7, 6, 5 to a separate rack 4 upon the sleeve 2. The adaptation to a change-speed gear of the countershaft type is described.
