[Class 69 (ii)] In a hydraulic or other press, one press plate is pivotally connected at one end or side to its pressure member and is normally at an angle to the press plate of the other pressure member, but is gradually moved parallel thereto as the plates come together. In the form shown, the upper press plate x is hingedly mounted at f at one end, the other end assuming normally a lower position limited by a stop member g. The plate is provided with studs e passing loosely through holes in the press head a, with or without the interposition of springs, hydraulic or compressed air rams h or springs resist the movement of the plate, and a ram i is provided for the initial separation of the plates. The lower press plate may be provided with a rack and pinion or other arrangement for ensuring its parallel movement. In a modification, the upper plate may be horizontal, the lower plate being then supported on springs, with its upward movement limited by stops of different heights.
