[Also in Division B3] An hydraulic press for embossing, bending, punching, and crowning boiler ends, comprises a framework consisting of at least one arched structure B, Fig. 1, connected to the upper and lower ends of two uprights 34, 36 arranged and fixed laterally to a base A, and a bracket D carried at the upper end of the uprights and supporting the movable equipage F, such as the press table 50, of the press. The arched structure may consist of two symmetrical parts bolted together, the lower part being bolted to the base A carrying a work table 14, and the upper part having its side faces 16, 18, Fig. 4, extended to form the bracket D and secured by bolts 38 to the uprights 34, 36. An end plate is secured to the plates 16, 18 and, with the side plates, forms guide surfaces 48 which co-operate with surfaces 56, 58 on a member 52 forming part of the movable equipage F which has a box-like structure; the uprights 36, 38 also provide guide surfaces co-operating with surfaces on the member 52 and plates 64, 66. The member 52 carries the press table 50 and can be raised or lowered by the combined efforts of at least two piston-and-cylinder devices 70, 74 and 72, 76, Fig. 5, when the piston 76 is clamped to the plate 50 by a pair of arcuate segments 80 engaging a groove 94 in the piston, the devices being mounted on plates 28, 30 between the side plates 16, 18. When the segments 80 are released from the groove, the piston 76 can be operated independently of the device 70, 74. A further piston-and-cylinder device K, Fig. 1, may be provided to supply a side pressure for use when crowning boiler ends. The framework of the press may have two or more arched structures B.
