Abstract

554,099. Stamping. SHAKESBY, L., ROGERS, R. A., and IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. Dec. 17, 1941, No. 16273. [Class 83 (iv)] In the manufacture of sheet metal pressings by built up wooden &c. dies pressure plates are provided to act as draw rings, the clamping pressure not being transmitted to the dies. The plates are preferably of heavily compressed laminated material such as that known commercially under the Registered Trade Mark " Tufnol." Pillars 11 extending from the base of the press through apertures in the lower die carry pivots 10 for upper and lower clamping arms 5, 6 situated at selected points of the die periphery in grooves 7. The arms 5 are actuated directly through adjustable screw 15 by the member 16 of the press that also acts indirectly through screw 14 of elements 13 on the arm 6. In a modification the lower arms are actuated by cams acting through toggles.
