300,689. Fitzpatrick, H. D., (Marquette Tool & Manufacturing Co.). Aug. 18, 1927. Cupping.-In a drawing-press a crank-reciprocated die 12 co-operates with a stationary die 16 and a work-holder 17 supported by rods 18 and plate 19 attached to a plunger 24. When the holder is depressed, springs 30 supported by fixed rods 28 are compressed and the plunger expels liquid through adjustable spring valves 38 to the top of the plunger. On the upstroke of the die 12 the springs 30 raise the plunger and the workholder and the liquid is forced through a valve 58 beneath the plunger. In a modification, the exhaust of the liquid from the top of the plunger is regulated by a mechanically-actuated valve. The invention may be applied to a double-acting press.
