Abstract

259,856. Jackson, L. Mellersh-, (Sheridan Co., T. W. & C. B.). May 12, 1926. Embossing; scoring.-A power press for smoothing and embossing flexible sheet material, e.g. leather hides, comprises an upper press member 14 mounted below a frame top piece 5, and a lower press member 8 with toggle or other raising mechanism 11, the upper member being mounted to recede towards its support while resisting the pressure, and being compelled to shift sideways by a system of links 16 and thus iron the material. Separate guides 6 spaced away from the frame uprights 4 support the member 8, thus allowing room for the leather to overhang the support. The member 14 is pressed away from its support 15 by a series of springs, and may be heated electrically. The pressure on the leather may be measured by a gauge 30. Alternatively, the lower member 8 may be mounted to recede towards its support.
