663,088. Fluid-pressure presses. HODEL, A. Aug. 26, 1948 [Aug. 26, 1947], No. 22492/48. Class 122(iii) [Also in Group XXIX] In a veneer press of the type in which a movable platen 8 is operated by fluid (e.g. water or air) under pressure supplied to the interior of a flexible sided inflatable member such as a flexible rubber bag 5, a displaceable frame 9 is provided to prevent the bag from being forced out from a sheet metal container 1 when the platen rises above the top of the container. The frame presents to the marginal part of the inflatable member a continuous face inclined outwardly and downwardly and avoids sharp bends in the bag. The frame 9 is advantageously made of angle-irons in which strips of wood having a triangular cross-section are inserted. The bag may be replaced by a container covered by a diaphragm. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 states that the frame 9 may be connected to the platen 8 but if workpieces of uneven shape are to be veneered the plate 8 must be removable so that the work-pieces can be laid with the veneered side on the bag 5. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
