Abstract

1,091,725. Sheet forming. FORGROVE MACHINERY CO. Ltd. July 4, 1966 [Aug. 11, 1965], No. 34435/65. Heading B5A. In a forming process a sheet E of thermoplastic material is clamped over a female mould G and blown into contact with a heater platen F. Simultaneously a piston-operated plunger D is raised into contact or near contact with the sheet. After sufficient heating compressed air is introduced through holes T in the heating platen to blow the sheet into the mould, the plunger being forced back to its lower position by the sheet against a controlled air pressure in space H. Alternatively the plunger may move down independently of the blowing pressure and may be mechanically, pneumatically or hydraulically operated. The sheet may alternatively be vacuum formed.
