Abstract
975,475. Moulding granular plastic material. BAKER PERKINS Ltd. Nov. 1, 1963 [Oct. 8, 1962], No. 37939/62. Heading B5A. [Also in Division B3] In a moulding process, particularly for CO 2 hardened moulds and cores, the moulding material is blown into contact with die means and simultaneously compressed by a perforated flexible diaphragm a surface of which contacts the moulding material and pressurized fluid acting on the opposite surface of said diaphragm and through its perforations. A sand carrier 4 is reciprocable on rails 17 by cylinders 14, 15 between a position above the die 20. In the latter position the sand carrier may be clamped between a pressure chamber 6 and the die by a cylinder 7 and pressure air admitted from the chamber 6 through a valve 12 to the rear of the perforated diaphragm 13 to blow the sand from the carrier 4 into the die and simultaneously compress it. The two-part die 20 comprises a part 20b movable by toggle means 22 and cylinder 21, and is heated by electric heater plates 24. The rails 17 above the die are spring- mounted for effective sealing of the carrier to the die.
