Abstract

1333984 Moulding press R A E FJELLMAN 12 Jan 1971 [15 Jan 1970] 1368/71 Heading B5A In a compression moulding apparatus the downward movement of an upper platen 2 is arrested prior to complete closure by contact with pistons 10 arranged in cylinders 8 on the lower platen. Each piston has an air outlet 20 which is blocked when the upper platen contacts it. Pressure then builds up in a line 16 to stop the press and actuate a time delay. After a predetermined period a valve 26 in the hydraulic supply exhausts to allow the piston to move, and the mould 6 to be completely closed. The outlets 20 can be replaced by electrical sensors. If the air supply fails the press becomes inoperative.
