Abstract
1328819 Pneumatic presses R P LICKLITER and E ABBOTT 17 Nov 1970 [17 Nov 1969] 54673/70 Heading B5F In a pneumatic press comprising a bed 10 (Fig. 4), ram plate 14 and mounting plate 18, a cylinder 50 mounted on the plate 18 and having a piston 56 connected to the ram plate 14, an exhaust control valve 72 (Fig. 2) disposed in the cylinder 50 is biased to a position closing an exhaust opening 82 in the mounting plate 18. The biasing means includes pins 114 mounted in the piston 56 and urged upwardly by springs 119. It also includes residual air under pressure in a chamber 70 between the piston 56 and the control valve 72. Further pins 120 acted on by springs 130 bias the control valve 72 to the open position. Opening of the exhaust control valve 72 is effected by an actuator 94 connected to the ram plate 14 by a screw 92 and rod 86. Washers 106 can be selectively removed from above actuator 94 and placed adjacent the bottom wall 98 of the actuator (Fig. 5, not shown) so as to vary the length of stroke of rod 86 prior to the opening of exhaust valve 72 by actuator 94. Springs 36 are provided for returning the ram plate 14 to its raised position.
