Abstract

435,132. Welded pipe &c. joints. CLOSE, L., Norton Hall, The Green, Nortonon-Tees, and IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd., Millbank, London. March 16, 1934, No. 8393. [Class 99 (i)] In a butt joint for pipes &c. 1, of uniform bore, weld metal 2 is deposited in a recess between the ends of the pipes, the weld metal extending to the inner surface of the pipes and being initially compressed by a detachable clamping ring 4 which is formed in sections and embraces shoulders 3 on the pipe ends. The clamping ring is preferably of tapered channel-shaped cross-section and is drawn or forced on to the shoulders by bolts &c. or hammer-blows respectively, and the shoulders are formed by upsetting the pipe ends or alternatively are constituted, as shown, by separate rings screwed to the pipes.
