Abstract
555,695. Making cylinders. SQUIRE, A. C: A. June 5, 1942, No. 7707. [Class 83 (ii)] . [Also in Group XXVI] Cylinders for hydraulic jacks such as are used on aircraft for operating landing gear, bomb .dors &c. are formed from a drawn steel tube a with thickened portions at the centre and ends on to which the trunnion sleeve and flanges, respectively, are welded or brazed. The flanges have a short sleeve portion d with thickened edge g and are drilled with a ring of bolt holes for attachment of a cover or gland. The end faces of the flanges and tube are oppositely bevelled at the meeting edges to form a recess for the welding or brazing material so that the end face may be machined flat after uniting. They are also welded at h. The sleeve and flanges are roughly machined before assembly. The trunnion sleeve k has hollow trunnions l, is welded at m and cut away at n to reduce weight.
