690,062. Pipe joints; repairing pipes. RUSCOE & CO., Ltd., J., and HIGGINBOTTOM. J. Sept. 21, 1951 [Sept. 22, 1950], No. 23238/50. Class 99 (i) and 99 (ii). A flange B is secured to each pipe end by rolling a packing ring C along the tapered bore b<SP>2</SP> of the flange into a recess b<SP>3</SP> having a wall with a reverse taper. The flanges are bolted together with interposed packing and have clearances b<SP>4</SP> to provide a flexible joint. The rings are initially stretched. Each flange may have two packing rings of different sizes co-operating with two pairs of reversely tapered surfaces. The flanges may be longitudinally divided so as to be used in repairing a broken pipe, the packing rings being jointed after assembly.
