Abstract

Current-collectors for traction purposes such as trolley wheels are made from a known aluminium bronze containing a small proportion of manganese and/or nickel having a refined structure produced by heat treatment and/or working. The heat treatment may comprise a normalizing at 400 DEG C. for 21 hours following a quenching from 850 DEG C. The collectors may be produced by casting a blank of the alloy, forging at 800-900 DEG C., quenching and then heating at 400-450 DEG C. If it is not possible to quench the forging, the latter may be heated to 850 DEG C. quenched and then reheated at 400-500 DEG C. In an example the alloy contains 9-11 per cent of aluminium and 0,2-3,0 of manganese with or without 0,2-5,0 of nickel but not more than 5 per cent of manganese and nickel combined.
