Abstract
In drawing wire from aluminium alloys, particularly those containing components forming mixed crystals, the original rolled or pressed blank or wire is drawn exactly or approximately to the final dimensions, then quenched from a temperature lying just below the solidification point of the alloy, and finally subjected to heat treatment at a temperature below 250 DEG C. An aluminium alloy containing 4 per cent of copper and 2 per cent of silicon after being drawn approximately to the final dimensions is heated to a temperature just below 500 DEG C. and quenched, and is then tempered at 220 DEG C. for 15 hours.
