Abstract

Contact insecticides are prepared by mixing lecithin with butyl alcohol or sulphonated fish oil or a mixture of these, in order to promote efficient dispersion in water. Commercial soya bean lecithin, which contains 60 per cent of lecithin together with soy bean oil, water and other impurities, may be employed, and according to various examples is used in proportions varying from 1 to 20 parts to 1 part of the dispersing agent. Other contact insecticides such as nicotine, rotenon, or pyrethrum may be added to the preparations. The use of alkalies such as ammonium hydroxide, or caustic soda for emulsifying lecithin is also referred to.
