287,222. British Dyestuffs Corporation, Ltd., Fairbrother, T. H., and Renshaw, A. Dec. 14, 1926. Proofing against fungi; proofing-compositions. -A process for the manufacture of leather dressings, adapted to prevent mildew or fungoid growths, consists in the incorporation, with the usual ingredients, of a small proportion, about 0.05 per cent, of an alkali salt of polyhalogenated phenol, particularly 2, 4, 6 trichlor-phenol in the form of the commercially pure article. In an example, a syrup containing the equivalent of one pound of sodium trichlor-phenate is mixed with one ton of leather-dressing in the final stage of manufacture at a temperature below 50‹ C. Essential oils may be added to mask the smell of the trichlorphenate. Specifications 259,690 is referred to.
