Abstract

A herbicide consists of a solution of caustic soda and white arsenic impregnated with sulphur dioxide. One pound of a mixture of equal parts of the solid ingredients may be dissolved in 5 gallons of water and the solution impregnated to give 6 per cent sulphur dioxide content by means of the apparatus described in Specification 426,234, [Group I]. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises also all herbicidal and insecticidal compositions comprising aqueous sulphur dioxide solution and an "adjuvant," and describes an insecticide in which the adjuvant is a hygroscopic substance such as glycerine. In this composition the water may be partly or wholly replaced by animal oil. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
