Abstract
431,617. Transformers. BRITISH THOMSON - HOUSTON CO., Ltd., Crown House, Aldwych, London. Oct. 24, 1934, No. 30499. Convention date, Oct. 26, 1933. [Class 38 (ii)] In a transformer having a winding comprising several conductor groups connected in parallel and wound side by side, each conductor group is composed of several conductors radially superposed on one another the individual conductors of neighbouring groups being interchanged so that the flux linkage with each conductor is the same and all the conductors carry equal currents. Fig. 1 shows two adjacent parallel connected conductor groups I and II each comprised of four parallel connected conductors. At the first crossing point inner conductor 1 in Group I is bent as shown in Fig. 5, to assume the same radial position in Group II while outer conductor 8 in Group II is bent to assume the same radial position in Group I. At the next crossing point, Fig. 2, the inner conductor 2 changes over from Group I 'to Group II and outer conductor 7 changes over from Group II to Group I in the above described manner. Other succeeding interchanges take place until each individual conductor has occupied each radial position at least once. The distances between the crossing points are equal and may each comprise a whole or fractional number of turns. In a modification three conductor groups are used conductors being interchanged between the first and second groups at the first crossing point, between the second and third groups at the second crossing point and between the first and second group at the third crossing point and so on.
