Abstract

745,390. Transformers and inductors. ENGLISH ELECTRIC CO., Ltd. April 23 1954 [April 29, 1953], No. 11826/53. Class 38 (2)'. An inductive winding comprises one or more groups of turns (two groups in Fig. 1), the turns in such groups being arranged in a number of pairs of annular coils (I, II; III, IV; V, VI form first group), the coils of each pair being so connected that they spiral respectively in opposite senses, the turns in each group being connected to form two conductors lying sideby-side in all the coils (the first group comprises. conductors 1-24 and 23-48), the end of one conductor (24), being connected by connection R1 to the beginning of the other (25). Such a winding has a high series capacitance from terminal T, between turns 1, 2, 3 and 25, 26, 27 of the two conductors in the first coil I, connection R1, and turns 22, 23, 24 and 46, 47, 48 in the last coil VI to centre tap T0, and similarly for the second group to terminal T2, which makes it useful as a tap-changing coil with a transformer having high series C, e.g. that described in Specification 587,997. In modifications, the turns may be connected to form three conductors connected in series, Fig. 2 (not shown), or four conductors arranged in two parallel pairs connected in series, Fig. 4 (not shown). There may be one group only, the centre tap being connected to the connection between two conductors, Figs. 3, and 4 (not shown), or four groups of four coils, Fig. 5 (not shown). The arrangement of Fig. 1 may be modified by varying the relative positions of the coils, Fig. 7 (not shown), and that of Fig. 3 by having several layers of turns to each coil, Fig. 6 (not shown).
