Abstract

1,040,013. Transformers. ENGLISH ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. March 1, 1963 [March 6, 1962], No. 8567/62. Heading H1T. An inductive winding has a portion of a conductor arranged in two or more pairs of disc coils A2, B2 . . . A5, B5 (Fig. 6), spaced apart along a common axis, a first set of turns of the conductor in each coil of a pair or pairs (e.g. 31 . . . 36 in A2 and 37 . . . 42 in B2) being wound in interleaved fashion with a second set of turns (43 . . . 51 in A2 and 52 . . . 60 in B2), the interleaved turns extending over part only of the radial width of the coils and the coils being interconnected (at N) so that there is a non-inductive capacitative by-path from the starting turn to the finishing turn. The remaining turns of the winding (e.g. A6, B6) are wound conventionally. In some coils (e.g. Al, B1) the turns may be interleaved over the full width of the coils. The number of interleaved turns may decrease evenly from one coil pair to the next (Fig. 3, not shown). The line terminal may be connected to the inside turn of the winding. Instead of a single conductor two or more conductors wound in parallel may be used, the conductors being interleaved individually.
