Abstract
1,209,029. Transformers and inductors. ENGLISH ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. 9 Nov., 1967 [29 Nov., 1966], No. 53510/66. Heading H1T. A coil for an inductive apparatus comprises 'two pancake-sections 50, 51 wound in opposite directions with respective stranded conductors, corresponding strands of the two conductors being connected together, as 61-77, at points spaced around the inner periphery of the coil, whilst over the last half of the outermost turn of each conductor the outer strands are successively transposed on to the periphery of the other pancake section. This transposition of strands around the outer periphery compensates for the changes in radial width due to the inner connections to produce a substantially circular coil, which does not, therefore experience large unbalance forces under short circuit conditions.
