Abstract

763,479. Transformers. ENGLISH ELECTRIC CO., Ltd. Feb. 18, 1955 [Feb. 19, 1954], No. 4945/54. Class 38 (2). An inductive winding comprises a number of single layer discs A, B, C, D so wound from a number of independent conductors 1, 2, 3, 4 forming a number of independent conductive paths through at least part of the winding, that while the conductive paths through the winding comprise equal numbers of turns, the number of turns (thirteen shown) in any one disc is not an integral multiple of the number (four shown) of the conductors. Thus in each disc one or more conductors has more turns than the others. In Fig. 1 conductors 1 and 4 have an extra turn in discs A, B respectively. Pairs of conductors 1, 2 and 3, 4 are connected in parallel to allow smaller conductors to be used and the members of the pairs 1, 3 and 2, 4 are connected in series. The discs are wound in pairs, A being first wound with three turns from four conductors in the order shown by the letters associated with the conductor numbers in Fig. 2. Conductors 2, 3, 4 are then bent down to the level of the next disc so that a further rotation of mandrel 5 results in an extra turn 1d to disc A and three turns 2d, 3d, 4d to disc B. The turns are then rearranged into the order shown in Fig. 3, and the winding continued with conductor 1 brought to the level of disc B. Finally,- the ends of the turns are cut and joined as necessary to form the connections shown in Fig. 1. Specification 587,997 is referred to.
