Inductances.-A current or power limiting reactor comprises a number of strip-wound pancake coils arranged in groups, with magnetic material between the groups, each group having a common axis, and the axes of the groups forming a regular polygon so that the reactor approximates in shape to a toroid winding. As shown, Fig. 1, the coils are located on cores 25 of wood &c., around a tubular insulating member 10. The coils are grouped between laminated magnetic material 29 and are secured in position by bolts 27 and packing pieces 26, 28. In other arrangements, the coils comprise four groups or they can be mounted in pairs. Individual coils may be wound in the same direction and they can all be connected in parallel or in two or four series-parallel groups, or they can be connected in groups with the windings in opposition.
