Abstract
431,488. Piston - rings. SKODA WORKS, PLZEN, 37n, Jungmannova, Prague. March 19, 1934, No. 8598. Convention date, May 9, 1933. [Class 122 (i)] A ring comprising segments of self-lubricating material expanded by springs &c. is associated with means for limiting its expansion. The segments 1 may be supported in and expanded by a resilient member 2 having shoulders 5 engaging the piston to limit expansion. Alternatively a ring or bolt 7 of I-section, Fig. 3, may restrict the support 2 the inner walls of which engage the self lubricating material to prevent displacement thereof. The member 2 may be replaced by one or more springs 4, Fig. 11, with or without a metal strip between the segments and springs. The latter may be guided in a recess in the ring groove. In modifications the restraining means may comprise either bolts with enlarged heads extending radially or axially through the ring or two sets of studs extending axially into recesses in either side of the ring. The ends of adjacent segments may have interengaging projections and recesses.
