Abstract

249,945. Dunbar, A. G. Jan. 9,1925. Pistons; packing. - Piston packing comprises two segments a, a' of wedge shape engaging inclined surfaces on other segments b, b<1>. The segments a, a', are expanded by springs c, c<1> engaging projections a<2>, buckling being prevented by projections b<2> on the segments b, b<1>. Preferably the packing is grooved to contain graphite or other lubricating material l<1>. The packing rings are housed in deep grooves e in the piston body. Preferably rings h in side recesses are pressed by springs against the packing rings.
