Piston-packing.-A piston p is packed by a ring or rings a, a<1> pressed against the side of the recess r by a ringe b with inclined face coacting with the wedge-shaped piece c of a floating ring. The ring a or the side of the recess may have grooves to assist in making a tight joint. The ring a has limited expansion as at d, Fig. 3, the faces d being small to wear as the ring wears and to allow increasing expansion. A junk ring k keeps the rings in position. The radial surfaces of the recess may be wedge-shaped.
