Abstract
240,756. Tritton, J. S. May 7, 1925. Pistons; pistons, reducing and equalizing wear of.-In a piston of the type in which an aluminium &c. body is protected from wear by one or more thin steel or other split bearing rings 7<1>, 7<11>. the rings grip the piston body and their edges engage split rings 4, 12, 13 in grooves in the piston. The upper ring 4 may be one of the packing-rings. Where a single bearing ring is employed, it may be slightly helical, in order that it may maintain contact with the split rings when the piston expands. Rotation of the bearing ring may be prevented by a pin. The bearing ring may be perforated to reduce its weight and the bearing surface may be reduced by recessing the middle portion of the ring.
