Abstract

324,406. Doxford & Sons, W., and Keller, K. O. Oct. 27, 1928. Piston-packing. - A packing-ring has hooked overlapping ends, which are engaged by movement in a radial plane. The hooks 11, 14, Fig. 1, may extend the full axial thickness of the ring, a step 12 beyond the hook 11 being overlapped by a plate 15, secured by rivets 16 in a recess in the end 13 behind the hook 14. The hooks may be undercut at 16. Alternatively, the plate 16 may extend to the end of the hook, or the end 13 may be integral, the plate being dispensed with. In a modification, Fig. 4, the hooks are half the thickness of the ring, one hook 20 being formed at the end of the step 21 and the other hook 23 being formed by recessing the end of the ring behind the step 22.
