[Class 83 (iv)] In means for tapering thin tubes of round or polygonal section a mandrel tapered at the part a and parallel at the part a<1>, is radially slotted to house tapered flexible webs b secured at one end by a slotted sleeve e and nut d. The tube c is threaded over the webs which are shaped to engage the corners of the tube. Relative axial movement of the webs b and the mandrel a<1> forces the webs b radially outwards to effect a gradual expanding action over the length of the tube. The mandrel may consist of parallel sections separated by a ridge.
