Abstract
425,649. Propelling aircraft. BOCK, G. A., Atherton, Queensland, Australia. March 19, 1934, No. 8542. [Class 4] A propulsion arrangement for aircraft comprises a crankless motor having a tubular main shaft, such as that described in Specification 302,559, and a motor having the usual crank-shaft, the latter passing through the tubular shaft and each shaft having a propeller affixed thereto, or a shaft housed in the tubular shaft is provided with a propeller and clutch means are provided to connect the propeller shaft to either motor. As shown the shaft 5 of the engine 4 passes through the hollow shaft 2 of a crankless engine 1, a propeller being fitted to each shaft. One or the other propeller may be stopped by means of band brakes 7, 8. In a modification the propeller 6 is dispensed with and the propeller 3 driven by either engine through a double-ended dog-clutch. Specification 302,559, [Class 7 (ii)], is referred to.
