698,902. Making shafts. DAIMLERBENZ AKT.-GES. March 12, 1951 [March 11, 1950], No. 5940/51. Class 83 (ii). [Also in Group XXIV] A motor vehicle propeller shaft is made of light metal tube 1 of density not greater than 5 gm./cc., so as to raise its critical speed above its operational speed range, and either or both its ends has fixedly secured, as by shrinking, thereon a universal joint fitting 5 of steel or light metal, with or without chrome-plating on its splined driving surface 7. The tube ends are drawn down onto a core plug 3 of steel or light metal before attaching the fitting 5, and riveting 6 is additionally employed.
