Abstract
622,806. Diesel locomotives. NORTH BRITISH LOCOMOTIVE CO., Ltd., and FETT R. H. April 11, 1947, No. 9681. [Classes 79 (i) and 79 (iii)] A diesel locomotive comprises a main frame 2 supported on two bogies 7<SP>2</SP>, each of which are rotatable about a vertical axis, a driving compartment 9 at each end of the frame 2, a sub-frame 1<SP>1</SP> depending from the main frame and supporting a longitudinally disposed underslung engine 1 and driving connections. The driving connections may include a flexible coupling 3, torque conversion means 4 which may be mechanical or hydraulic, universal joints, a telescopic cardan shaft 5, bevel or other right-angied gearing and reversing gear 6. The radiator 8 may be disposed horizontally with a fan 81 beneath it rotating about a vertical axis. The wheels of each bogie may be coupled together preferably by external coupling rods 7 and air or vacuum brakes may be fitted to the locomotive in addition to a hand brake.
