Abstract
812,931. Electric locomotive driving gear. ZAVODY VI LENINA, NARODNI, PODNIK, CHADZI, S., and SEIBER, J. Jan. 4, 1956 [Jan. 6, 1955], No. 293/56. Class 79(2) [Also in Groups XXIV and XXXV] In an electrically propelled vehicle having a resiliently suspended motor 12 driving the pinion 7 of a gear transmission supported by an axle 11, a drive shaft 5 is connected at its ends to the motor rotor 1 and to the pinion 7 by universal joints 3, 6, the pinion, as shown, or the rotor being connected to its associated joint 3 by an axially-movable piston-like member 2. As shown the rotor 1 has a splined connection with the member 2, a sealing membrane 8 being provided between the shaft 5 and the rotor 1. In another embodiment, Fig. 4 (not shown), the rotor receives two piston-like members connected by -universally jointed shafts to gearing at the opposite ends of the axle. In a further embodiment, Fig. 5 (not shown), the piston-like member is provided between the interior of the pinion and the shaft. In another embodiment, Fig. 6 (not shown), the shaft extends through a quill shaft extending beyond the pinion, the piston-like member being provided between the shafts. In a modification, Fig. 2 (not shown), the pistonlike member is connected to its associated universal joint by springs permitting tangential resiliency (see Group XXIV).
