Abstract

874,467. Locomotive change speed arrangements. ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. May 31, 1960 [June 30, 1959], No. 22454/59. Classes 79(2) and 79(3). The motor 2 of an electric locomotive has two driving pinions 4 and 5, either one of which can be brought into mesh with a gear 7 of train of wheels driving the wheels 6 and 9 by moving the motor axially. The outboard end of the motor shaft may be additionally supported. A neutral position may be allowed for. The final drive between the last pinions, e.g. 12, Fig. 3, and the bogey wheels may be through a flexible coupling comprising a quill tube 15 connecting with a flexible coupling 16 connected to a quill shaft 17 which at its remote end drives the wheel 19 mounted upon the shaft upon which the wheel 9 is also mounted.
